We are a thriving academy on the coast, in Marske-by-the-Sea. In 2018 the academy was placed top in the North East of England for the second year in a row, for the GCSE grades 5+ in both English and maths, and first for both Progress and Attainment. Our students and staff achieve outstanding outcomes in national examinations, in 2018 securing 89% grades 4+ in both English and mathematics, and 77% at grades 5+. Progress 8 was +0.75 and Attainment 8 was 59.1
Outwood Academy Bydales opened on 1 February 2015, sponsored by Outwood Grange Academies Trust (OGAT). The original Outwood Grange Academy in Wakefield founded the Trust to lead the improvement of other schools in the North East of England. The Trust currently sponsors a number of secondary and primaries in the region. Outwood Grange Academy has been a National Training school for ten years, was accredited as one of the country’s first Teaching Schools. The established Outwood Institute of Education continues this work.
The predecessor Bydales School was judged by Ofsted in 2013 to require special measures, and later in September 2014 chose Outwood Grange Academies Trust as sponsor to lead the school from a category to outstanding in as short a time as possible. Since then the school has rapidly transformed and the GCSE results year on year have consistently broken the historical records. We are determined to maintain this.
In January 2018 the school was judged ‘Outstanding’ in all categories, having been transformed in three years from the Special Measures judgement of the predecessor school.
Our Academy vision is ‘Students First.’ We put our students at the heart of everything we do, and drive change in our schools quickly by focusing on ‘Raising Standards, Transforming Lives’. We simply believe that “the whole point of schools is that children come first and everything we do must reflect this single goal.”
We are committed to providing high standards of education for students. Our innovative vertical curriculum centred on a two year Key Stage 3 and a three year Key Stage 4 personalises the learning of all students. Fast-track opportunities and workshops provide accelerated routes for some students while others have the time to succeed with an extended Key Stage 4. Vocational, practical, creative and academic qualities are valued equally in the Academy where we really do embrace the ‘Transferable Skills’ agenda.
