Assistant Principal: Deep Support.
One thing I feel passionate about is giving back to the community which helped shape the person I am today. At the age of three, I became a member of the Marske community; attending local primary, Westgarth; secondary, Bydales; and sixth form, Prior Pursglove College. I studied a Joint Honours BA in Drama and English Literature at Hull University. I then remained in Hull to undertake my GTP (Graduate Teacher Programme) and NQT (Newly Qualified Teacher) training years at Andrew Marvell Business and Enterprise College. I returned to the North East, where I worked as part of the English team at Longfield Academy of Sport, Darlington, for a further 2 years. During this time, I was first introduced to collaborative learning structures and was appointed as a member of the Teaching and Learning Specialist Team, which enabled me to focus on improving Teaching and Learning, through embedding collaborative structures across the school.
I was initially appointed as an English teacher at Bydales in January 2013, 10 years since I had departed as a student! Subsequently, I was promoted to Literacy Co-ordinator, then Second in Department in the English team, followed by Associate Assistant Principal; leading on Literacy, Accelerated Reading, Y6 – Y7 Transition, Year 7 Catch Up interventions and Attendance. Following a year and a term in this role, where I contributed to ensuring that all students - regardless of starting points - were able to access education and succeed, I was promoted to Assistant Principal, leading on Deep Support.
I am delighted to be a part of the leadership team at Outwood Academy Bydales, and to be able to promote and drive success for both students and staff across the Outwood Academy Bydales community. I feel passionate about ensuring that all students can achieve their potential and I see it as my duty to promote finding solutions and removing barriers to learning; allowing students to flourish academically, but additionally encouraging them to thrive as upstanding members of a community I care so dearly about.
