Jo Ferris

Vice Principal: Deep Experience.

With a passion for teaching mathematics I began my career in Newcastle and Gateshead rapidly becoming involved in leadership as Head of Sixth Form. Remaining in the North of England I spent an invaluable period of time gaining experience in a breadth of fundamental leadership skills.

Diversifying from leadership for a short while, I chose to concentrate my professional development on raising standards specifically at GCSE. My involvement during this time was devoted to whole school attainment with a specific focus on mathematics. I am proud of the success I enjoyed in this position where I made a significant difference in raising attainment for children in the school in which I worked whilst also acquiring lots of transferable skills and knowledge.

Since joining the Outwood Grange Academies Trust in January 2016 I believe I have drawn on my developed skills to the positive benefit of improved student attainment particularly at Outwood Academy Bydales. I became Associate Vice Principal in April 2017 and then Vice Principal in December 2018, with responsibility for Deep Experience, which includes leading curriculum design and delivery, enrichment, pledges, VMG and examinations. I am delighted to have been part of the senior leadership team at Bydales in its rapid and very successful journey to an OFSTED rating of Outstanding.
