Jo Ferris

Associate Vice Principal - Deep Experience.

With a passion for teaching mathematics I began my career in Newcastle & Gateshead rapidly becoming involved in leadership as Head of Sixth Form. During this time, I was involved in the early stages of the Partners Programme with the University of Newcastle upon Tyne with the aim of increasing participation rates for students from families without any history of Higher Education.

I was appointed as Assistant Head Teacher at King James I Community College in Durham, with responsibility for transition, safeguarding and out of hours learning.

I moved to Cumbria appointed as Head of Workington Sixth Form Centre. This was a unique position of leading a combined Sixth Form on one site belonging to two schools where I also worked as Assistant Head Teacher in each.

Just prior to joining the Outwood Grange Academy Trust I chose to concentrate my professional development on raising standards at Key Stage 4. My leadership involvement during this time was devoted to whole school attainment and a specific focus on mathematics. I am proud of the success I enjoyed in this position where I made a significant difference in raising attainment for children in challenging circumstances.

I had been Assistant Principal at Outwood Academy Bydales since January 2016, becoming Associate Vice Principal in April 2017, with responsibility for Deep Experience. This includes leading curriculum design and delivery, enrichment, pledges, VMG and examinations.
