It can be a challenge to fit four weeks of NCS into your summer, especially if holidays are booked already with families. For this reason, there are multiple four week blocks starting each week over the summer, to make it easy! Make a commitment and start planning which slot you will sign up for! #GoForIt

We are huge advocates of NCS, and are determined to help inspire as many of our current Year 11s to spend four weeks of their summer holidays getting an experience of a lifetime! NCS students spend two weeks away on residentials, including Outward Bound activities, and then building knowledge and skills at use of media, film, public speaking, confidence and leadership, ahead of two weeks planning and implementing social action projects. Students genuinely leave with even greater resilience and understanding of their numerous skills and talents, and hopefully determined to continue with volunteering, or indeed one day working within the voluntary sector. Many return to NCS in support and leadership roles on future residentials and local projects.
Over 40 of our Year 11 Leavers 2017 were at the National Citizen Service (NCS) Graduation Ceremony held in Middlesbrough on Wednesday. It was a privilege to see them all, and students from across the Borough, and celebrate their achievements, particularly the social action projects around Redcar & Cleveland. Congratulations in particular to our own Madison Cooper, who co-presented the evening, and Amy Hornsby who persuaded local MP Simon Clarke to dab… Good to catch up with our support Lawrence McAnelly, CEO at The Junction, and Julie Donaldson, Zetland FM presenter who interviewed several students about their social action projects on her radio show. Thank you! You can see more on our news item here: www.bydales.outwood.com/blog/news/2133
In 2017, over 25% of our ex-Year 11 students were involved in the NCS four week summer programme, including two weeks of social action projects. We aim to grow these numbers year on year, as the benefits to the local community and students alike are huge!

If you can’t make the four week commitment of summer NCS, there is always a shorter October half-term opportunity. Three of our students joined others from across Redcar & Cleveland recently. You can read more here:
