Our building was constructed in 2008 as a Specialist Technology College for the former Bydales School and was purpose built for learning in the 21st century. Bydales School was became part of Outwood Grange Academies Trust in 2015. In January 2018, the academy was proudly rated Outstanding by Ofsted.
Our focus is on ensuring the quality of teaching and learning is of the highest possible standard as well as creating the best possible environment to learn in where teachers are ‘masters of their craft’, Ofsted 2018. Our dedicated staff are deeply committed to providing the highest quality educational experiences for all our children. Teaching staff have an unwavering desire to teach the best of what has been thought and said in their particular area of expertise and through their enthusiasm they inspire appreciation, ambition and achievement in our children.
We believe that knowledge is empowering and can be transformational for our young people, in education and in life. Our knowledge-rich curriculum reflects our conviction that every student has the right to access challenging subject content, regardless of background or starting point. The design of our curriculum is based in the science of learning, which shows that subject content must be revisited often to make sure that knowledge sticks. We believe the acquisition of knowledge empowers our students and appreciate that if children do not remember what we have taught them, then even the richest curriculum is pointless. Knowledge is powerful when it is remembered.
There are specialist facilities for all subjects, including:
Music technology suite with recording studio
Design and Technology
Learning Resource Centre
Sporting facilities including gym suite and tennis courts
Each classroom has its own interactive whiteboard and there are many IT rooms available across the academy. Our excellent sporting facilities include a fitness suite, sports hall, tennis courts and large open sports fields.
We are currently extending our PE changing rooms and the project is due to be completed in January 2021.
