Despite being overcast and a little wet, Year 9 students completed their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Bronze Expedition this weekend, supported by our colleagues from Guisborough Youth Club. A fantastic route as ever, this time from Fancy Bank near Charltons up and over the moors to Bank Farm in the shadow of Park Nab, Kildale for the night under canvas. Up early on Sunday to head over to Percy Cross, Guisborough Moor, and then lunch at Highcliff Nab. Final descent back to Guisborough.
Having planned their routes, students also prepared their camp site and cooked meals. It is hard however to get a good nights sleep when it is so light! Well done all who stayed motivated, and to colleagues from Guisborough Youth Centre who have been leading training sessions at after-school Enrichment, and organised the ‘behind the scenes’ logistics, and supervised. Thanks too for Mrs Waites for your liaison too, and help with eDofE.
We are delighted that Guisborough Youth Centre colleagues continue to take the lead on providing these opportunities, for even more students each year, with Year 9 attempting Bronze. We hope some will continue to make it to Gold by Year 11 too.
Such overnight residentials count towards Pledge 3, of our ‘Pledges’ to achieve before University (it is 7 to go to the Year 11 Prom) but of course, it is the experience that matters. Such events last in memories for a lifetime, and challenging oneself builds resilience and confidence too! Well done all!
