Duke of Edinburgh (Bronze) Launch Meeting - 25 January

We are very happy to once again be working with Guisborough Youth Centre, to support them giving the opportunity to students in both Years 9 and 10 to complete the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Scheme, and in our beautiful backdoor North York Moors. The number of students completing DofE each year at the Academy grows and grows, and last year we opened up the opportunity, via Guisborough YC, for Year 9 students to complete Bronze for the first time. Moving fowards, this now gives Year 10 the chance to complete Silver, that was previously only open to Year 11. We would be delighted if ultimately Year 11 can achieve Gold BEFORE moving onto Post16 study!

Students work hard to prepare for expedition weekends, with many hours going into planning, preparing, completing eDofE research and evidence tasks online, as well as a practice expedition building up stamina.

Many, many thanks to colleagues at Guisborough Youth Service who run these opportunities for students, coming in for Enrichment after-school for training and support. Thank you too to Mrs Waites, who has done all the liaison, promotion and reminders at the academy end.

We had over 70 students completing Duke of Edinburgh in 2016-2017, over 25% of the eligible students, ie those in Years 9 and 10. We aim to expand this even further!

Why not get involved? Meeting Thursday 25 January 2.30pm Main Hall with Mrs Buckby from Guisborough Youth Club. Find out more and sign up!
