Alumnus Career Session: Chemical Engineering - 8 November

On Wednesday we were delighted to welcome back 1992 alumnus Mrs Charlotte Pickerill (Taylor) to the school. She is a Chemical Engineer, and Master of Engineering (MEng) and currently is the Deputy Manager of Furnace Technology and Design at TechnipFMC, a global firm leading in oil and gas projects, technologies, systems and services. She spend time visiting our Mr Burton’s Year 10 students in our Design Technology department, before kindly leading an after-school Enrichment session with students who wanted to know more about a career in Engineering.

Charlotte studied at Bydales School from 1989 – 1993, before completing her A-levels at South Park Sixth Form College.
She then studied Chemical Engineering at Aston University from 1995-2000, securing her Masters in Engineering (MEng) during that time.

She worked as a Process Engineer from 2000-2006, before becoming a Furnace Supervisor until 2013. This then led to her current position as Deputy Manager of Furnace Technology and Design. She works globally, including the Middle East.

The type of furnaces include those used on the cracker at Wilton International, which turns crude oil into feedstock chemicals such ethylene which is then piped directly to industry around the UK.

Thanks again for Charlotte for finding the time to support us on Wednesday, it is very much appreciated.

Quote from parent of a student who attended: “Our son was totally buzzing after attending this session. He was totally inspired. Many thanks.”

Alumni Employer Engagement

We are keen to hear from ex-Bydales students, particularly those who are able to, once every year or so, come along to an after-school session 2.30-3.30pm and talk about their career section, the barriers and hurdles overcome, and to give wise advice on lessons learnt, and the importance of transferable workplace skills.

Alumni who would like to just give us contact details for now can complete an online form but there is also a box to tick if you are willing to give us an hour or so of your time to inspire the next generation of employees into your career area or business. There is also an email address if you prefer.
