It was great to follow the progress of three of our 2017 Leavers alumni, Annalise, Nicole and Chloe as they embarked on the October half-term opportunity with the National Citizen Service (NCS) from Friday 22 to Sunday 29 October.

First off were three days in Grasmere, the Lake District on a number of challenges, and the opportunity to meet other like-minded individuals from across Redcar & Cleveland, for some serious teambuilding! Everyone then returned to Teesside, for three days based at Prior Pursglove College, to work on presentation skills, public speaking and debating, CV building, as well as working with Hallam Wheatley from Sabic UK (looking at their Apprenticeships & Work Experience opportunities) and Councillor Steve Turner from Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council (answering questions on local community issues). They then spent time planning their social action project, which ultimately involved renovation work at Errington Woods Park in some terrible weather, finishing lunchtime today, Sunday 29 October. Phew!

Fantastic achievement and dedication, and many thanks to Dave King of Imagine You Can TV (See: www.facebook.com/ncsimagineyoucan) for making this all possible.

For current Year 11, the challenge is for an even greater number signing up for the main four weeks in Summer 2018 sessions, or for those who can’t work around the range of dates then, then the shorter opportunity again in October 2019.
