Overview of the Year for French at Key Stage 3

Throughout Key Stage 3, we aim to build on the language skills that students have learnt throughout Key Stage 2. We develop students’ listening, speaking, reading and writing skills, and actively promote cultural awareness. We use a wide variety of authentic resources, together with Heinemann Studio online resources to support student learning.

Overview of the Year for Modern Foreign Languages at Key Stage 4

At Key Stage 4, we continue to build on students’ skills from Key Stage 3. Students in Y10 (or Y11) complete AQA GCSE French. We encourage students of all abilities to develop their French language skills to their full potential, equipping them with the knowledge to communicate in a variety of contexts with confidence. The AQA GCSE French qualification stimulates students’ cultural knowledge whilst developing their language skills. The students are examined on their listening, reading, writing and speaking skills at the end of the course. Examinations are based on the following themes:

Theme 1: Identity and culture
Theme 2: Local, national, international and global areas of interest
Theme 3: Current and future study and employment
