Overview of the Year for Maths at Key Stage 3

Within Key Stage 3, we deliver maths through a Mastery scheme of work, which uses teaching for understanding. Each year of study is split into units of work which are designed to last between 2-4 weeks and are studied in detail to develop their mathematical fluency and reasoning as well as increasing their ability to problem solve. Within each unit of work, there are problem solving questions, designed to deepen their understanding. All students will follow the same content, with more able students being stretched by depth of the topic, rather than just being moved onto a new topic.

Overview of the Year for Maths at Key Stage 4

Maths is a core subject, so all students will complete a 3-year linear GCSE course finishing in Year 11. Maths is an important qualification which is held in high regard by employers and is required to go on to study courses at higher education.
Some students who are not making expected progress by the end of Year 8 and Year 10 will go on to study Option Maths, which will help them increase their grades. This is an additional course of Maths, which is completed in place of one of their option subjects.

Downloadable Guidance

MyMaths

Homework is now set regularly using MyMaths, a fantastic online resource. Students and parents can track progress in all topic areas, and access online lessons too when stuck or needing a refresher. All students have a sticker in their Planners with the generic log-on details for the school, and personalised log-on details to access homeworks.

Struggling to get MyMaths to work on your iPhone, iPad or Tablet? Download the FREE Puffin app. There is a document below explaining how to!

Maths Watch

We have just purchased access to ‘MathWatch’ online. Previously we used to provide this resource on CD to all Year 11. Have a look! There is a video on each aspect of maths, talking through and demonstrating solutions to particular questions. A great place to revise, check understanding and for rusty parents to remind themselves of techniques!
Students need to log on using bydales as the CentreID, then the same 3 number/letter log-on they use for MyMaths.
