Welcome to the geography department. We are a small department within the Humanities and Modern Foreign Languages Faculty, and are comprised of caring staff who strive to ensure all students achieve their potential. We work hard to make lessons fun and relevant to today’s world. Our courses give students access to modern world issues at a range of scales, from local to global.

Overview of the Year for Geography at Key Stage 3

The geography course at Key Stage 3 aims to prepare students for the GCSE course in Key Stage 4. In Year 7 students study a variety of topics in physical and human geography. During the year students will build on their geographical knowledge and develop their skills. In Year 8 students will use the knowledge and skills developed during Year 7 to develop their sustainable decision making skills.

Overview of the Year for Geography at Key Stage 4

In Key Stage 4 students study for the AQA GCSE geography. This course is assessed by completion of three examination papers as follows:
Paper 1 – Living with the physical environment (35%)
Paper 2 – Challenges in the human environment (35%)
Paper 3 – Geographical applications (30%).
