We are excited to welcome colleagues from the National Citizen Service (NCS) to Outwood Academy Bydales, for the annual NCS Recruitment Assembly to Year 11, which takes place on Monday 22 January. This is a fantastic volunteering opportunity for the summer, when students have completed their GCSEs. NCS involves £1500 work of funded support, students only need to contribute £50 for a four week programme, that included in Week 1 an outward bound adventure residential, in Week 2 a local residential, working on presentation, media, TV and radio interview skills and much more. Students in Week 3 plan a local social action project in Redcar & Cleveland, and carry it out in Week 4.
There are many cohorts, and different four week blocks available. as well as an alternative session in October half-term 2018, for those who can’t manage four weeks in the summer.
There are many more opportunities for those who want to take NCS further, for example the Youth Board for the North East, and this year 2017 alumnus Madison Cooper ended up co-presenting the local and then North East NCS Awards Evening.
And as a result of the commitment of 2017 Leavers, where over 25% of the year group committed to this challenge, and the success students had on their projects and beyond for their support, we were awarded NCS Champion School status.
Our recent certificate showed that 33 students of our in summer 2017 contributed 990 volunteering hours. Let’s make it over 1000 in 2018.
