Business BTEC students were set an enterprise challenge by their teacher Mrs Ellwood towards the end of term, that fitted in brilliantly with Student Voice organised activities to raise money for local charities and have some extra fun at the end of a busy autumn.
Students were given £1 each and set the challenge to generate as much money as possible through cake sales. They were also limited to how much they could charge for cakes, no more than 50p. Students worked in teams, pooled resources, worked out best value ingredients, decided on product designs that would be the most popular, and cracked on with manufacture. Other key elements involved marketing effectively on the day, being highly organised during sale, and producing colourful and engaging ‘point of sale’ advertising.
It was an absolute pleasure to see how imaginative and hard working students had been (and no doubt some helpful parents too) and the enjoyment on the two days selling their wares, adding to a brilliant atmosphere in the academy.
A fantastic £221 was raised, not bad for a few £1 seed funds! The money was presented to Helen Hedges of Redcar Area Food Bank during the Christmas Assembly Celebration.
