We are a thriving academy on the coast, in Marske-by-the-Sea. In 2015 the academy was placed top in Teesside for progress of students using the Best 8 GCSEs valued added measure (1025.6), and third in the North East. Our students and staff achieve outstanding progress and achievement in national examinations, in 2015 securing 74% A*-C in both English and mathematics, and in 2016 78% in the same measure. In both these years since opening, students achieved over 80% three levels of progress in both English and mathematics. We are the top performing school in the local authority, and our Progress 8 score in 2016 of +0.28 placed the school 21st in the North East.
Outwood Academy Bydales opened on 1 February 2015, sponsored by Outwood Grange Academies Trust (OGAT). The original Outwood Grange Academy in Wakefield founded the Trust to lead the improvement of other schools in the North East of England. The Trust currently sponsors a number of secondary and primaries in the region. Outwood Grange Academy has been a National Training school for ten years, was accredited as one of the country’s first Teaching Schools. The recently founded Outwood Institute of Education continues this work into the future.
The predecessor Bydales School was judged by Ofsted in 2013 to require special measures, and later in September 2014 chose Outwood Grange Academies Trust as sponsor to lead the school from a category to outstanding in as short a time as possible. Since then the school has rapidly transformed and the summer 2015 GCSE results of 73% 5+A*-C EM were the best in school’s history, beating the previous best in 2012 by 13%, when the school was judged outstanding by Ofsted. Results climbed again in 2016, beating virtually all previous records.
Our Academy vision is ‘Students First.’ We put our students at the heart of everything we do, and drive change in our schools quickly by focusing on ‘Raising Standards, Transforming Lives’. We simply believe that “the whole point of schools is that children come first and everything we do must reflect this single goal.”
We are committed to providing high standards of education for students. Our innovative vertical curriculum centred on a two year Key Stage 3 and a three year Key Stage 4 personalises the learning of all students. Fast-track opportunities and workshops provide accelerated routes for some students while others have the time to succeed with an extended Key Stage 4. Vocational, practical, creative and academic qualities are valued equally in the Academy where we really do embrace the ‘Transferable Skills’ agenda.
